Census Bureau Announces Delay in Release of Redistricting Data

This afternoon, the United States Census Bureau announced its updated timeline for release of redistricting data to the States.  Due to delays caused by COVID-19, the Census Bureau’s Chief of the Redistricting and Voting Rights Office announced that redistricting information from the 2020 Census will not be released to the states until September 30, 2021.  This means that Texas school districts with November, 2021 trustee elections will have insufficient time to undergo reapportionment prior to the November, 2021 elections. State law requires new district boundaries to be drawn no later than 90 days before election day. School districts with May elections will need to complete the redistricting process prior to February 4th, 2022.
