Eddy Hernandez Perez is a seasoned school attorney with deep construction industry experience. His practice focuses on advising school districts and construction professionals through all aspects of the design and construction process, with an emphasis on drafting and negotiating complex construction agreements. In addition to his construction practice, Eddy regularly advises school district clients regarding elections, open government laws, economic incentives, and general school law matters.
Eddy began his legal career as a school attorney advising districts across Texas on facilities and business matters including facilities planning, real estate transactions, and construction. In that role, he represented clients from rural communities with fewer than one hundred students to large urban districts with more than one hundred thousand students and nine figure capital programs. Eddy served as outside counsel on hundreds of construction matters and was a member of TASB’s Construction Contracts Committee.
Before joining Leon Alcala, Eddy honed his construction expertise at a nationally recognized construction law firm. During this time, his work encompassed a diverse range of projects, including those for private owners, developers, contractors, design professionals, and governmental entities. This experience provided Eddy with a keen understanding of the legal and practical challenges inherent in construction projects, enhancing his ability to deliver strategic counsel to clients.
As a first-generation college graduate, Eddy's passion for Texas public schools is deeply rooted in his personal and professional journey. Before practicing law, Eddy taught bilingual fifth grade students in San Antonio through Teach for America and earned a master’s degree in education policy and management from Harvard University. He is the founder and current Board President of Leadership SAISD, a nonprofit organization that provides free leadership development to San Antonio residents and serves on the board of directors for Mainspring Schools, an early education center in Austin committed to providing a high-quality learning environment for socioeconomically diverse children.
